The Guérilla d’Art project, by the artistic group L’Oeil dans L’Front (Perruche & Elsa Charpentier), had been presented at the Articule centre in 2007-2008, as part of the Projets Spéciaux.
Targets:
- To establish art exploration and promotion in places visited on a daily basis.
- To build relationships between art centres, art venues and the public.
- To bridge the gap between the public and the art industry.
- To blur the line between the artist and the public, and between art venues and places visited on a daily basis.
- To make art accessible to anyone who would like to take part in an artistic action.
- To encourage people in incorporating art in their daily lives.
- To give people the desire to make each other smile and surprise each other.
In Montréal, Guérilla d’Art took place over a six-month period and involved various steps. First, the public was invited to participate to bookmark creation workshops, organized in coffee shops all over the town.
The participants were encouraged to donate their bookmarks to L’Oeil dans L’Front for an anonymous distribution activity that had been organized later on.
After the workshop series, an exhibition of 600 bookmarks had been presented at the Cagibi café.
At the end, volunteers had distributed the bookmarks in random books in Montreal libraries and elsewhere in the city.
A blog had also been created to follow the evolution of these activities. People who found bookmarks were then allowed to leave a comment on the blog and share their thoughts on their discovery!
In Brussels, this project was a two-week activity, organized in partnership with Constant VWV and Recyclart. People participated to the workshop during the first week. Then, the following week, an exhibition and a distribution of the bookmarks were organized in a book store.
