Artist Statement

My approach on visual arts tends to be narrative and documented. I find inspiration in my relationships, in news and in social, ecological and worldwide issues that I’m concerned about. I imagine poetic, naive and funny outcomes to them. Under an innocent look, a sense of urgency, powerlessness or distress is being shown.

I’m very interested in human beings and the “civilized” status they give to themselves… especially when they forget the relationship between their actions and the other living things !

I usually use animal representations to illustrate, exaggerate or accentuate human behaviour. This transposition universalizes the meaning of the art works and reaches a larger audience. The public is then invited to disconnect from the racial and sexual well-known representations and from prejudices. Once the references have been changed, everyone can relate even more to the art work, either through its humanity or its bestiality.

The relationships between the characters living in my creation are defined by universal words: parent, child, friend, enemy, love, hate, doubt, fear…

The animal metaphor also testifies of willpower: giving a place back to the nature! Lately, this space has been dominated by humans and I believe in living side by side with other living things. We all look alike, after all!

My art includes many aspects, as the production of physical and touchable art works, created with concrete materials and exploring the animal-human relationship through small recycled wood canvas.

In an informal and pleasant way, I also like to question the public, ask for its participation and encourage thoughts sharing through fun inclusive interventions, which are taking place outside of the official artistic circles.

For all my projects, I create with recycled or recyclable material that everyone can find at home. It can be material used for daily tasks or usually used by children… Inspired by my respect for the environment, the use of mostly non-toxic products is also my way of preserving other people’s health and mine. This way of thinking and creating is inspired by movement, fluidity, death (“ending”) and reborn
