Bio

Perruche grew up in a suburb of Montréal, a half country populated by cats, grasshoppers, frogs, bees and bats.

In her mother’s ceramic studio, she elaborates her first bestiary, a work-in-progress that keeps her busy from 5 to 10 years old.

Interested in many art forms, she explores music for a few years, gets a diploma of college studies, and a major degree in film studies from the university. Then, she decides to come back to her first love: matter, nature and animals.

Her fascination for wildlife inspires her for a name: Perruche (French word for parakeet), a happy bird with a name that makes everyone smiles. This “domestic bird” calls to mind the relationship between humans and animals, and how the man tends to control the beast. It also refers to how the animal sometimes pecks at the human, as a way to express its independent life.

In 2007, Perruche receives a grant that allows her to develop her first solo exhibition. The same year, she presents Souvenirs récents in Montreal, an exhibition that illustrates the creativity among the women in her family.

At the same time, in order to distance herself from the reflection surrounding Souvenirs récents, Perruche starts working on Miniatures, a series of small collages on recycled wood that she creates from a playful and spontaneous approach.

Then, inspired by her needs to get closer to people and to incorporate art in daily life, she founds L’œil dans L’Front with another artist. In 2007-2008, this collective presents a Guerilla art project at the Articule center in Montreal.

Later on, a second grant allows her to go to Brussels in 2008, where she presents the Miniatures and the L’œil dans L’Front projects, which are positively welcomed. The originality of her artistic production is noticed, including her themes and her image transfer methods (acrylic, acetone, serigraphy, etc.), which are the results of a 2-year exploration.

Back to Montreal, she now shares a studio with other artists in the fabulous Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area. She continues to explore animal iconography, applied to her vision of the city and the relationship between pain and emotions.

She always enjoys meeting and sharing thoughts with people, whether it be while leading collective art projects or selling colorful magnets in craft sales.
